Trans Himalayan Trek (Spiti to Tsomoriri)
This is a varied and remote, high-altitude trek in the starkly beautiful trans-Himalaya. Commencing in the dramatic Spiti Valley, a region rich in ancient Buddhist heritage and interesting Gompas, the trek follows an ancient trade route towards Tibet to reach the remote Changthang plateau in eastern Ladakh. Until recently, the territory through which it passes was barred to foreigners.

Day 1: Arrive - Delhi
Met on arrival at Delhi international airport and transfer to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 2: Delhi - Kalka
Morning after breakfast we will take you for a Heritage Walk through the narrow lanes of Old Delhi. The Walk will come to an end with a visit to The Red Fort (Delhi's most magnificent monument was built by Emperor Shah Jehan.. The other attractions of this morning are Rashtrapati Bhawan (is the official residence of the President of India. and India Gate. Evening after dinner, we will transfer you to railway station to board the train to Kalka. Overnight on board the train.

Day 3: Kalka - Shimla
Upon arrival at Kalka , take your connecting Toy Train to Shimla. Arrive Shimla railway station and proceed to your hotel. In the afternoon afternoon for for a walk through the Mall of Shimla. Overnight stay in hotel.

Day 4: Shimla - Sarahan
Morning start Jeep safari to reach Sarahan (1920 M) via Narkanda (2690 m).Arrive Sarahan and check-in at hotel . In the afternoon visit Bhimkali temple, a rare combination of Bhuddhist and Hindu architecture .The Bhimakali Temple, reputed to be at least 800 years old, is dedicated to Goddess Durga or Bhimakali and is considered one of the significant Shakti Peeths of Shaivite Hindus.

Day 5: Sarahan - Kalpa
Morning after breakfast start safari to reach Kalpa (2759 m) via Rekonpio (2758 M) by covering appox 95 kms in about 4-5 hrs. This is one of the most breathtakingly vertiginous drives you will face. The road is literally carved through the rock face with a sheer drop down to the turbulent Sutlej. Once you reach the town of Kalpa, you are rewarded by the most fantastic views of the Kinner-Kailash Mountain. Arrive and check-in at Hotel. Afternoon at leisure and free for independent activities.

Day 6: Kalpa - Tabo
Morning start driving along with Sutlej and in the surrounding lush green forest.Arrive and check-in at Hotel. Afternoon at leisure and free for independent activities.

Day 7: Tabo
Morning after a leisurely breakfast proceed for exploring Tabo. We visit TABO CHOSKOR, a compound of around 9 small and large halls with Magnificient paintings and murals. Dating back to 1000 AD onwards, these were created under the supervision of the great Tibetan Translator Lotsava Rinchen.In the afternoon we take a lovely village walk to see some of the cave shrines which were used by monks who came for learning. Return to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 8: Tabo - Kaza
Morning drive to Kaza while visiting Dhankar,Lalung en route. First we visit Lallung Monastery around, a small tiny village 20 km off the main road , visit the Old Gompa which is still intact in its old charm. Later we dirve to Dhankar. After sightseeing continue driving to Kaza. Arrive Kaza and check - in at Hotel for overnight stay.

Day 9: Kaza - Ki - Kibber
Morning after breakfast drive down to reach Kibber. The road passing through the Ki Monastery where we pay a visit to the monastery. Arrive and set the camp for overnight stay.

Day 10: Kibber - Dumla
After breakfast the trek starts by descending steeply for about one hour to the narrow Parilungbi gorge. The trail then crosses the Parilungbi river and climbs to a green cultivated area near Dumla Arrive and set the camp for overnight stay.

Day 11: Dumla - Taltak
After climbing further for a few kilometers, one great view of Kang Nilda (6303m) rising in the south east, to the northwest one can see several peaks rising over the Kunzam Pass. The trail then descends for about an hour to reach Thaltak camping grounds (4645m). Arrive and set the camp for overnight stay.

Day 11: Thaltak - Borochin
Today the trail descends over shifting shelves of sand and moraine debris, cuts down stain to the Parilungbi gorge and continues along the river as far as Jugtha camping ground. From Jugtha the path rises steeply and continuously over more scree and moraine. At the top of this difficult climb you’ll reach two glaciated valleys, one running to the north and the other to the south. The trail follows the northern moraine to reach Borochin camping ground. Arrive and set the camp for overnight stay.

Day 13: Borochin - Parang La - Dak Kardom
After a walk of one hour, the trail climbs gradually up to Parang La (5592m). From the top of the pass there are spectacular views of the peaks and ranges of Lahoul and Ladakh, and the Spiti and Changthang valleys. Descending the pass, you will cross a heavily-crevassed glacier to reach Dak Kardom. Arrive and set the camp for overnight stay.

Day 14: Dak Kardom - Humma
Having crossed the Parang La, the secenary changes from steep terrain crossed with gorges, to broad, high-altitiude plains fringed by peaks, where there is a genuine sense of space and remoteness. Continue along an open valley, following the Pare Chu river to Humma. Arrive and set the camp for overnight stay.

Day 15: Humma - Norbu Sumdo
Continue to follow the Pare Chu river until the confluence with the Phirste Phu river at Nurbu Sumdo. At Nurbu Sumdo one can see the ruins of an old fort built by Sennge Namgyal in the 17th century, and it was in the region that at the earliest signs of the Drokpas (yak and sheep herders) were discovered. Arrive and set the camp for overnight stay.

Day 16: Norbu Sumdo - Kiangdome
Today the trek is mostly on flat, sandy terrain as you cross open plains and dried lakebed to the southern trip of oval-shaped Tso Moriri, at Kiangdom. Tso Moriri is a high altitude, azure-blue fresh water lake, surrounded by stark 6000m mountains. The lake breaks into several channels to create a vast wetland, the breeding ground of several rare species of birds. The region is also home to an abundance of wildlife – commonly seen are kiang (Tibetan wild ass), fox and marmot. You may be lucky and spot a Tibetan wolf. Arrive and set the camp for overnight stay.

Day 17: Kiangdom - Tsomoriri
Today is an easy-going, albeit long walk with few ups and downs. You’ll continue round the fringes of the lake, crossing dry sections of the lake bed. The views across Tso Moriri to Mt Lungser Kangri (6666m), the highest peak around the lake, are unforgettable. Arrive and set the camp for overnight stay.

Day 18: Tsomoriri
Day at leisure to explore the area and visit Karzok village, a permanent settlement of the Changthang Nomads, and its Gompa.

Day 19: Tsomorir - Leh
After breakfast drive down to Leh via Sumdo and Chuma – Thang (3965M). The Jeep drive through this part of the Indus valley is quite flat without much uphill or downhill drive, a wide-open village. Upon arrival check in at hotel for overnight stay.

Day 20: Leh
Morning after breakfast, we will take you to a guided tour of the Monasteries of the Indus Valley. Your excursion would include visits to Hemis, Shey Palace,Thiksy Monastery Return to your hotel by the later part of the afternoon. Evening you can walk down to the nearest market on your own or spend some time at leisure. Overnight at your hotel.

Day 21: Leh - Delhi & Depart
Morning after an early breakfast, we will transfer you to the airport to board flight to Delhi. Shikhar Travels’ Representative would receive you at Delhi Airport then Proceed for a guided tour of The Qutab Minar (The 72.5m high tower dates back to the 13th century and is one of the greatest bequests of the Islamic culture). Later in the evening we will take you to your “Farewell Dinner”. After dinner, our representatives will escort the group to the International Airport to board flight for onward destination
